Alexandre Camacho is the six-times champion of Madeira

Leader of the Rally Vinho Madeira in absolute standings, Alexandre Camacho was also sovereign in the Coral Rally Championship of Madeira and, with this last victory at the competition organized by Club Sports of Madeira, he became the six-time regional champion. At the local competition, Miguel Nunes assured, early on, the holding of the second place and, taking long to find the ideal settings of his Hyundai i20 R5, he ended up making a tranquil race, when it comes to the local championship.             The lowest spot at the podium ended up becoming João Silva’s, author of a very fast performance, despite the age of his Citroën DS3 R5 and its mechanical issues, which affected his driving. Fourth amongst regional drivers, Pedro Paixão saw his result conditioned by a puncture in the first Special Stage of the competition’s second day, as well as by the loss of a wheel in the last stage of the schedule.                   Rui Pinto lost a lot of time under the fog that fell during Palheiro Ferreiro 2, but he managed to close the top five ahead of the Porsche 991 GT3 duo, composed by the drivers Filipe Freitas and Gil Freitas. Eighth, Bruno Fernandes, after the retirement of Vítor Sá, just tried to meet the finishing line and celebrate the conquest of the Madeiran two-driving wheel title. Paulo Nunes coupled his victory in the RC4 group with the ninth place at the regional level. The top ten standing was complete with Luís Serrado, at the wheel of a Renault Clio RS.

Bruno Magalhães the best in the National Championship

Bruno Magalhães has always been clear about his appreciation for Rally Vinho Madeira and the competition, organized by Club Sports of Madeira, allowed the Lisbon-born driver to be back in the fight for the national title of the sport. From quite early, the Hyundai i20 R5 driver has shown himself to be the best amongst regulars at the Portuguese Rally Championship and obtained his first victory this year in this competition. If Magalhães quickly came up ahead, also José Pedro Fontes occupied the middle spot at the podium, a position on which he would come to cross the finishing line, adding important points for the championship, and, as was his goal, reversing the negative tendency of his performance this season up to now. Armindo Araújo stood at the lowest spot of the “national podium” after a performance directed towards obtaining points. Miguel Barbosa was fourth in a Rally in which he registered some small problems with his Skoda Fabia R5. Pedro Meireles and Miguel Correia, on their turn, stood on the immediate positions while Ricardo Teodósio, leader of the championship at arrival to Madeira, finished the race in Funchal with his year’s least favourable result, having lost a lot of time with a broken disc and, hence, not going beyond the seventh place. In eighth position came António Dias, who was, for the spectacle of his performance, one of the crowd’s favourite at the special stages.

Alexandre Camacho's “Hat trick” at Rali Vinho da Madeira

Alexandre Camacho has just matched Américo Nunes’ record by winning, for the third consecutive time the Rally Vinho Madeira. Winner of 13 of the 19 special stages of the event organized by Club sports of Madeira, the Skoda Fabia R5 driver dominated the sixtieth edition of the Madeiran competition, an already established classic. He beat many records and obtained a totally justified triumph. His biggest opponent ended up being “Pepe” Lopez, a driver who risked, free from any restrains in terms of the championships, despite his little familiarity with the path and who even, at a point, was ahead of the race. The lowest rank at the podium was that of Bruno Magalhães, leader after the end of the competition’s first day, who eventually ended up facing many difficulties with his tires and did not manage to perform at the same rhythm as the two drivers ahead.               Miguel Nunes only felt comfortable at the competition’s last day, but early positioned himself, thanks in part to the retirement of Giandomenico Basso, on the fourth place of the general standing. The fifth standing, José Pedro Fontes, managed to compete with his mind set on the National Championship and, on top, also ended up included in the list of Special Stage winners.             Despite the many difficulties, João Silva managed to take his Citroën DS3 R5 to the sixth place, ahead of the current National Champion, Armindo Araújo, who was also present in Madeira with the goal of gathering points for the Portuguese Rally Championship. Miguel Barbosa cut the finishing line on the eight position, profiting from Pedro Paixão’s misfortune, who, after a recovery stage post puncturing at SS 2, still managed to lose a wheel in the Rally’s last SS. Pedro Meireles closed the top ten.
