Alexandre Camacho ahead after the 4.th section

Alexandre Camacho arrives in Funchal after racing the 4.th section with an advantage of 4 seconds over “Pepe” Lopez. With a good performance at the North of the island, Bruno Magalhães consolidated, for a moment, the lowest spot at the podium. Facing some difficulties at the passage by Serra d’Água, Boaventura and Santana, Giandomenico Basso is still fourth with a 15.8 seconds difference from the leader.             Miguel Nunes raced the fifth section with a 21.7 seconds delay, an important difference from Giandomenico Basso, but, also, holds a good advantage of 13.7 seconds over José Pedro Fontes, sixth and, in terms of the PRC, second. João Silva is the seventh in absolute standings followed by Armindo Araújo. Miguel Barbosa and Pedro Meireles close the top 10. Pedro Paixão won the last timed stage in this section, a Special Stage in which Ricardo Teodósio broke a car rim and lost about three and a half minutes.

Madeiran Rally with little excitement

Rally Vinho Madeira, when it comes to the Coral Rally Championship of Madeira, is, at this stage, a lukewarm race with, safe a few exceptions, big differences amongst the top qualified. With five Special Stages completed, the leader was also Alexandre Camacho, followed by Miguel Nunes in second place, even if with a 23.8 seconds difference from the top competitor. At the lowest spot of the Madeiran podium was João Silva, with a 59.3 seconds difference from the lead.             Pedro Paixão, who lost a lot of time with his puncture in the first Special Stage during the morning, came fourth, more than two minutes behind the lead. Rui Pinto was one of the drivers who lost more time dealing with the fog that fell over the most of Palheiro Ferreiro 2, and came fifth with a 2 minutes and 15 seconds difference from the leader. Filipe Freitas was in the sixth position, almost 3 minutes away from the top of the standings and Vítor Sá, the uncontested leader of the RC3 group, came seventh. The top 10 standing was complete with Gil Freitas, Paulo Mendes and Bruno Fernandes. At eleventh, Paulo Nunes had an 18.5 seconds advantage over Artur Quintal in the RC4 group.

Alexandre Camacho returns to the leadership

The dispute at Serra d’Água 1, first Special Stage of the 4.th section, brought Alexandre Camacho back to the leadership of Rally Vinho Madeira. "Pepe" Lopez, who was leader after the previous timed Special Stage, lost 3 seconds to the Madeiran driver and is now at the second spot with a heading of 6.6 seconds over Giandomenico Basso. Bruno Magalhães, now fourth, is still the best driver of those interested in The Portuguese Rally Championship. Miguel Nunes, even is performing at a lower ryhthm than his main competitor in the Madeiran Championship, is still positioned fifth.

“Pepe” Lopez took control of the Rally

Responsible for an excellent time at the second passage through Palheiro Ferreiro, Special Stage marked by fog, “Pepe” Lopez raised four places in the general standing and is the new leader of the Rally Vinho Madeira. Alexandre Camacho had widened his advance on Special Stage 4, but his passage by the last Special Stage of the third section did not only allow for Giandomenico Basso, third, to re-establish his disadvantage from the end of the previous section, but, also, to lose the leadership.             The differences between the top standings have shortened, since “Pepe” Lopez now secures leadership, only 0.2 seconds over Alexandre Camacho, while Giandomenico Basso returned to a 6.8 seconds difference from the Madeiran driver. Bruno Magalhães fell from second to fourth place, but is now only 0.8 seconds away from Giandomenico Basso. Miguel Nunes lost some time overtaking another competitor, but is now on the top five.

Alexandre Camacho satisfied. Competition hard at work

When passing by Service Park B, after the 2.nd section of Rally Vinho Madeira, Alexandre Camacho was “satisfied with his car’s behaviour. We only did small adjustments. In the afternoon, we might get some rain in the North Coast, but we will not think about that until we reach the next Service Park. On the other hand, the drivers standing behind him have shown, in most cases, some discontentment with their cars’ behaviour. Giandomenico Basso regretted not having at his disposal “the vehicles tuned to the settings we are accustomed to use in Italy. Little by little, at the Service Parks, we will be working towards that”. Having reprogramed his Hyundai I 20 R5, Miguel Nunes did not complain about “not understanding why the car isn’t exhibiting the same manner of doing curves as it had during tests. We are working with our engineers so that we can become more competitive in tomorrow’s stages”.

Alexandre Camacho is the new leader of the Rally

After winning the first two special stages of the competition’s second day, Alexandre Camacho is the new leader of Rally Vinho Madeira. The Italian driver Giandomenico Basso has been the driver that has traced the leader the closest and, hence, is placed second, followed by Bruno Magalhães. Miguel Nunes is, currently, the fourth standing, ahead of the Spaniard “Pepe” Lopez.             José Pedro Fontes is sixth with João Silva following his trail. Leader of the Portuguese Rally Championship at the moment of arrival to Madeira, Ricardo Teodósio is now positioned as eighth. Immediately following are Armindo Araújo e Miguel Barbosa. First amongst Madeirans yesterday, Pedro Paixão punctured a tire passing by Campo de Golfe and lost another minute.
