Pedro Paixão leads the Madeira Rally Championship

Pedro Paixão, with a 1.1 seconds advantage, is the first standing when it comes to the Madeira Rally Championship.  The Skoda Fabia R5 driver is followed by Miguel Nunes and by João Silva, who came third despite providing his audience with an exuberant driving at the wheel of his Citroën Ds3 R5. Alexandre Camacho is fourth, coming 1.4 seconds behind the leader and holds an advantage of 2.6 seconds over Gil Freitas. Between the sixth and eighth positions are Gil Freitas and Paulo Mendes, both driving Porsches 991 GT3. Closing the top ten are the best of the RC3 group, a grouping in which Bruno Fernandes hold a 0.5 seconds advantage over Vítor Sá.

Bruno Magalhães leading Rally Vinho Madeira

Bruno Magalhães is leading Rally Vinho Madeira after finishing the first special stage, Avenida do Mar – CINM. The Hyundai i20 R5 driver did not have the most exuberant performance, but still managed to beat, with little more than a second of difference, the previous special stage record, a special stage that has been, for a long time now, the opening event of the Club Sports of Madeira organized competition. Standing in second place, but a second behind Magalhães, was Ricardo Teodósio at the wheel of his Skoda Fabia R5, another driver to have shown a “clean” driving thinking about results. In front of many dozens of thousands of spectators, Armindo Araújo was the author of the third best timing, ahead of the best Madeiran, Pedro Paixão. Giandomenico Basso obtained only the fifth best score with an advantage of only a tenth of a second over the debuting “Pepe” Lopez. From drivers thought of as favourite to victory, José Pedro Fontes is seventh, Miguel Nunes eighth and Alexandre Camacho only twelfth. The public’s “hero” was, nonetheless, António Dias in a Skoda Fabia R5, who delighted the public with his long skids.

Starting order chosen

Priority drivers who took part at the Qualifying have already chosen, at the Rally’s Operations Centre, the order by which they will be starting the first leg. Opened by Alexandro Camacho, the driver who will follow is Pedro Meireles. Immediately after it will be the turn of the Italian Giandomenico Basso to show up at the special stage. The immediate departure order holds “Pepe” Lopez, José Pedro Fontes, Miguel Barbosa, Bruno Magalhães, João Barros, Armindo Araújo, Ricardo Teodósio, Miguel Correia and António Dias. The starting order for the special stage of Avenida do Mar – CINM will be the reverse of the remaining first leg. The starting order of the second leg will be defined by the provisional standings resulting from the first leg.
