Alex Español, still in command of the two-wheel drive car

Alex Español, in a Peugeot 208 Rally4, continues to lead the standings reserved for two-wheel drive users, a category monopolized by competitors in the Peugeot Rally Cup Ibérica. The Spanish driver holds a 10-second lead over Portuguese driver Guilherme Meireles, in an identical car. Also in Peugeot Rally Cup cars, Spaniards Giovanni Fariña and Iago Gabeiras follow in the immediate positions, 10.9 and 13.9 seconds behind, respectively. Vasco D. Silva and his Renault Clio Rally4, with complaints about his car, is fifth, 19.2 seconds behind the leader.

Filipe Freitas Leads the RGTs

Filipe Freitas, driving a Porsche 991 GT3, is leading the RGT competitors midway through the second day of competition of Rali da Madeira. He holds a 4.1-second lead over Paulo Mendes, who uses the Porsche 992 GT3 he debuted in this event a year ago. Third in this group is occupied by Belgian Joachim Wagemans, driving an Alpine A110 RGT, over a minute behind the leader. Immediately behind, but far behind, are Miguel Andrade and Paulo Carvalheiro, both in Porsche 991 GT3s.

Diego Ruiloba strengthens his lead in Rali da Madeira

Diego Ruiloba leads Rali da Madeira after the completion of the second section of the event, which included the first Special Stage through Campo de Golfe, Palheiro Ferreiro, and Santana. The Spanish driver, driving a Citroën C3 Rally2, was the only driver to win two Special Stages in this event organised by Club Sports da Madeira and currently holds a 1.5-second lead over the rest of the field. Madeiran João Silva remains in second place, having overtaken the leader in a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2. Not far behind, 2.7 seconds behind the leader, Kris Meeke, in another Toyota, is third and has an 8.8-second lead over the fourth-place finisher, Italian Simone Campedelli in a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2. In another car from the Czech brand, Miguel Nunes is fifth, just a tenth behind the Italian. Armindo Araújo is sixth in a car identical to the two competitors ahead of him in the standings. Miguel Caires, with problems with his car, is seventh, 2.6 seconds ahead of José Pedro Fontes in a Citroën C3 Rally2. Alexandre Camacho and Dani Sordo, both in Hyundai i20N Rally2, round out the top ten in the overall standings. The caravan for this event, which has been on the road since yesterday and ends tomorrow afternoon, now heads to Funchal to regroup and head to the service park. The afternoon will see the completion of Section 3, the second run through the Special Stages contested in the morning.

Alex Español leads the Two-wheel drive

Alex Español, driving a Peugeot 208 Rally4, was in the lead of the two-wheel drive standings after the first two special stages Rali da Madeira. The Spanish driver held a one-tenth-of-a-second lead over Madeiran Vasco Diogo Silva in a Renault Clio Rally4. Third in the category was Guilherme Meireles in another Peugeot 208 Rally4, a model also driven by Anton Korzun, who was leading after the opening Special Stage. In another Peugeot car, Spaniard Miguel Garcia was fifth.

Diego Ruiloba is ahead in Rali da Madeira

Diego Ruiloba, behind the wheel of a Citroën C3 Rally2, is the third leader of Rali da Madeira after the three first Special Stages are over. The Spanish driver was the fastest in the first passage through Palheiro Ferreiro, the longest special stage of the event, and now has an advantage of 0,2 seconds for the Madeiran driver João Silva who, at the wheel of a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, lead the Club Sports da Madeira organisation after the previous Special Stage. In another Toyota, the British Kris Meeke is third to just 1,1 seconds of the leader. Simone Campedelli and Miguel Nunes, both in a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, are still in the top five. The carvan of Rali da Madeira heads now to the north of the Island, to the Special Stage in Santana.

João Silva is the new leader of Rali da Madeira

João Silva, behind the wheel of a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, is the new leader of Rali da Madeira, after the end of the first Special stage and second day of the competition. The Madeiran driver was the best in Campo de Golfe 1 and has now an advantage of 1,1 seconds for the Spanish Diego Ruiloba, with a Citroën C3 Rally2, who is the second in this special stage. The third fastest in the race so far is Kris Meeke, also in a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2, in the lowest podium place at the moment just 1,3 seconds of the leader and two-tenths-of-a-second of the driver behind him. The leader after the first day of the competition, Simone Campedelli, with a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, is now fourth and Miguel Nunes, in a similar vehicle, is right behind him.

Simone Campedelli is the first leader of Rali da Madeira

Simone Campedelli was the fastest driver in the opening stage of Rali da Madeira, a race of the FIA ERT and the Portuguese and Madeiran championships of the sport, which will be on the road until next Saturday. The Italian, driving a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, completed the route through downtown Funchal packed with spectators with a time of 1:34.9, finishing the first of three days of competition in the event organised by Club Sports da Madeira in the lead. The best national driver and also of the CPR, Armindo Araújo, in a car identical to the leader, finished second, 0.2 seconds behind the leader, and is followed by the British driver Kris Meeke, driving a Toyota GR Yaris Rally 2, 0.4 seconds behind. The 2024 race winner, Spaniard Diego Ruiloba, in a Citroën C3 Rally2, is fourth, 0.7 seconds behind, and is trailed by the highest-ranked Madeiran driver, João Silva, in a Toyota GR Yaris Rally2. The top seven finishers, which also include Dani Sordo in a Hyundai i20N Rally2 and Miguel Nunes in a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2, are separated by just 1.8 seconds. Tomorrow, August 1st, the second day of competition in Rali da Madeira will take place, consisting of a double run through the Campo de Golfe stages, at 10:25 and 15:20, Palheiro Ferreiro, at 11:10 and 16:05, and Santana, at 12:20 and 17:15. The day also includes four runs through the service park located on Avenida Sá Carneiro and Cais 6 of the Port of Funchal. Simone Campedelli is the leader of Rali da Madeira
