Rali Vinho da Madeira will be on the roads tomorrow

Tomorrow, 6th August, starts the 62nd Edition of Rali Vinho da Madeira. As in 2020, this competition, organized by Club Sports da Madeira and directed by Pedro Melvill Araújo, will have 16 special stages, divided into equal numbers amongst the two days of the competition. This was a very applauded decision last year and its main reason is to reduce the organizational costs, as well as to implement the contingency plan and enforce sanitary measures.   Sports-wise, the Organizing Committee, presided by Paulo Fontes, assured an excellent list of entries that will guarantee great entertainment, as it is set by the most accredited names of national and regional rallies in absolute levels and specific groups, to which a Junior World Champion, an outstanding panel of the best vehicles Rally2, several national and international debuts of models. Due to the performance of the last few years, the attentions will be centred in the usual competitors of the regional competition, Alexandre Camacho, Miguel Nunes and Pedro Paixão, all behind the wheel of a Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo and its dispute, usually to the tenth of a second, for the leadership. Nevertheless, in the fight for the first positions, will be equally the Spanish Jan Solans, driving a Citroën C3 Rally2, as well as previous winners of such event, as Bruno Magalhães, behind the wheel of a Hyundai i20 R5, and José Pedro Fontes, also driving a Citroën C3 Rally2. Other drivers such as Armindo Araújo, Ricardo Teodósio, more focused in the national championship, will also fight for a very desired place on the podium. With more competition in groups and levels, the reasons for Rali Vinho Madeira to be considered one of the most popular festivities of the Archipelago are reassured.  

RVM on television

Besides the RTP Madeira mega operation coverage of the rally, with special daily programming throughout the entire week, lives of the four Special Stages per day, live coverage of the Assistance park, Start and Prize Giving of the winners on the podium, RVM will have daily news, through the updated chronical on the News of  Porto Canal and Spanish Channels of Galiza and Valência, with a highlight to the television station, broadcast on cable net in Spain, Gol.  Gol TV is a channel specialized in sports.  

Alexandre Camacho is the leader of the first stage

Alexandre Camacho, driving a Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo, will be the first driver on the roads in the first stage of this year’s Rali Vinho da Madeira Edition. Right next to him will be Pedro Paixão, also in a Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo, and Bernardo Sousa, with a Skoda Fabia R5. The fourth driver to be seen by the Madeiran enthusiastic public will be the Spanish Jan Solans, behind the wheel of a Citroën C3 Rally2 and Armindo Araújo, in one of the many Skoda Fabia Rally2. In the following positions of the starting order will be Miguel Correia (Skoda Fabia Ralky2 Evo), Bruno Magalhães (Hyundai i20 R5), Miguel Nunes (Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo), José Pedro Fontes (Citroën C3 Rally2 Evo) and Luis Miguel Rego (Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo). The starting order of the first stage of Rali Vinho da Madeira will be announced today, at 5 p.m., 5th August.  

Pedro Paixão is the Qualifying winner

The Madeiran driver Pedro Paixão, with a Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo, was the fastest in Qualifying, a special stage performed a few minutes ago at Estrada dos Cardais and Regional Road 224, and he will also be the first to choose his starting place in the ceremony at 1 p.m. at Praça CR7, in Funchal. The second fastest driver was also from Madeira, Bernardo Sousa, with a Skoda Fabia R5, and the Spanish Jan Solans, behind the wheel of a Citroën C3 Rally2.   The standings can be checked here: aqui.

Ongoing Checks

The Administrative Checks and Scrutineering of Rali Vinho da Madeira are happening since 6 p.m. and until 9:30 p.m. These procedures allow to ensure the authenticity of the information given by the competitors, as well as check the information of the vehicles with their technical passport and safety equipment demanded to the drivers, co-drivers and racing cars.  Many Madeirans took the advantage of this first opportunity to watch, next to their vehicles and many of their idols informally, along with the possibility to hear the sound of the engines that, starting tomorrow, will dream on the roads of the 10 municipalities within by the competition organized since 1959 by Club Sports da Madeira.    

22 Competitors for Shakedown

There are 22 teams ready for Shakedown, the perfect moment that allows the competitors to finalize the settings of the vehicles. As in last year’s edition, Shakedown will be at the same place as Qualifying and will happen between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. During Shakedown, the teams will not be qualified and the timing achieved by the drivers in the uphill, being only used as reference for the teams in the measuring of the competitiveness of their performances. As in Qualifying, there will a specific assistance park for the event, at Água de Pena Sports Park. Qualifying is tomorrow

The first official contact of the competitors with their vehicles will start tomorrow morning in Qualifying. This first session, for drivers with priority only, will take place at Estrada dos Cardais and Regional Road 224. It will start at 8:15 a.m. and finishes at 10:50 a.m., being divided between the two uphill roads for reconnaissance and final uphill, this one being the one that determines the best timing. The drivers taking part of this stage will take part, after 1 p.m. at Praça CR7 in a ceremony where the starting order will be determined for Leg 1.  To the fastest driver of Qualifying, will be given the opportunity to choose the starting order, to the second, and so on.
