RM 2026 - Message from the President of Club Sports da Madeira and the RM 2026 Organising Committee – José Paulo Fontes

With a long history and as the successor to the famous “Volta à Ilha” and the “Rali Vinho da Madeira” – now known as “Rali da Madeira” – it maintains a leading, prestigious and benchmark position among the elite of international rallies, and is considered one of the most spectacular and competitive tarmac rallies.

On behalf of the entire organisation and Club Sports da Madeira, we extend a warm welcome to the “Rali da Madeira 2026”, the sporting event with the greatest national and international visibility, which continues to fulfil the dual objective of promoting tourism in Madeira, by boosting its economic activity, thanks to the enthusiastic and participatory manner in which the people of Madeira embrace the “Rally Festival”.

This traditional and spontaneous bond between successive generations of Madeirans and their rally is contagious; it influences everyone who takes part in it and those who watch this sporting spectacle, which means that organisational and competitive standards must remain high, ensuring a field of foreign drivers familiar with Madeira’s roads who, together with the fast drivers from Madeira and the mainland, guarantee the sporting and competitive quality right through to the end of the event.

But there will be many rallies within this competition, as there are numerous challenges and objectives for the competitors, across the different classes and vehicle groups. Of particular note are the vehicles in the RC2 (25) and RC4 (22) classes, as well as the RGT (5) class and the so-called ‘show drivers’, who are always a hit with motorsport fans.

In sporting terms, the “2026 Rali da Madeira” counts towards the FIA European Rally Trophy, the Portuguese and Madeira Championships, and the 2026 Coral Rally.

From the autograph session, through the technical scrutineering, the Shakedown and the spectacular Avenida do Mar Special Stage, the route then takes in a selection of iconic special stages, all run along winding tarmac roads.

We are convinced that large crowds will be following the entire event step by step, so it is essential to do so with the utmost safety and by following the instructions and recommendations of the organisers and the police and security forces.

We want a ‘Rali da Madeira’ that also combines ‘maximum safety with environmental sustainability’, and this dual objective will only be achieved through the help and civic-minded behaviour of every spectator.

‘The Rally isn’t just about Madeira; it belongs to Madeira.’

We wish everyone a great rally, safely, whilst protecting our environment and our landscape.

We are counting on all of you.

José Paulo Fontes

President of Club Sports da Madeira and of the RM 2026 Organising Committee
